A merging of Marxist and Freudian theory to consider Fascism

4 stars

Marxist thread of alienation seems a reasonable strand to pull as a reason for fascism’s continued sprawl. As we become increasingly disassociated from the skills as well as the means of production, so we become less isolated in small cogs roles. Seems reasonable.

I could even take a bit of the patriarchal authoritarian household being an explanation for a desire for a fascist leader.

But the Freudian infant libido stuff, jeez, does anyone still seriously follow this school of thought?

When your coming from the Freudian school of thought, you find ideas like; fascists are sadomasochists, who need to be both dominated and to dominate. Members of the cult of the bully.

There were clear or positive ideas to take from the book.

An important reminder: The state, the police, the media are not neutral, but are class enemies.

That though there are hardcore of fascists, at least half members of the dominant democracies do vote for liberal ideals. And for most of the population their minds can be changed from narcissistic Tory ideals.

Through acts of cooperation, people learn the value of working together. Consciousness and confidence in not needing authoritarian leaders comes from overcoming alienation and isolation.

Ideas and struggle. Theory and practice.
