loppear reviewed The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold (World of the Five Gods, #1)
medieval fantasy
4.0 stars
Subtle historical fantasy of court intrigue, with a limn of magic at the margins but power central to the story is political & alliance by family and marriage, with several women characters written with agency & competence but very much staying within this patriarchal framework. Nonetheless, engaging.
