Great insight into one of worlds most famous animation studios. I liked that it’s written by someone passionate about the long term success of a company. Not the short term profit of an IPO or exit but rather the long term success of the company and especially its employees. Ed Catmull tried to figure out what it takes to remain successful and to avoid what ruined other enterprises. The center of his concern are the people who he works with, the often coined “human capital” of any creative company.
His style is easy to read and the stories are quite well to relate with. And of course it’s awesome to get to know about the history and insights of a company and people that brought us so much joy over the last decades.

reading mostly non-fictional books to learn new stuff. But occasionally I'm reading Sci-Fi and History.

This is a bunch of shorter stories, partially connected. The author again is proofing his great talent to big science fiction. Telling the story of earth from different angles and perspectives. Colossal ideas mixed with scientific background and always a sprinkle of philosophy and sociology.

I'm still absolutely blasted by this triology. The last book is less like a novel but rather like a documentation or diary. The content is still very dense and sprinkled with bright ideas. It's stunning to what level detail the author thinks about the future of not only the earth but the universe.
The descriptions are still very colorful and intense.

This was a stunning read. A dense mix of history and science entangled in a science fiction story. I especially liked the insight into the history of China written by a Chinese author. The science part is also very up2date. There are quite a few twists to the story and the characters are quite nuanced. This makes this book an interesting read and a novel in the rather classic sense and easy to read even for non-science addicted readers.
Falko reviewed Personal Kanban by Jim Benson
Review of 'Personal Kanban' on 'GoodReads'
4 stars
This book is an easy to read introduction to the concepts of Kanban. It's specially fitted for individuals rather than whole teams (hence the title). The author gives many practical examples that the average reader can easily relate to. This makes the application of the given information easier and measurable.
Even if you know the concepts of Kanban already this book might still be worth reading for its fitting to personal space and contexts and for the many practical examples.
